The land owner breeds plants in the sea of plastic in Spain.
From the family of night shade plants.
The crops are picked by other men.
As we know, the crops are toxic.
When consumed they induce dreams and hallucinations.
The land owner hallucinates processions of undead and distributed selves.
Her eyes change from compound to simple and she no longer perceives complex
images, instead her simple photo receptors detect only movement.
Her eyes change again and spread all over her skin.
Now her skin sees through its many pores.
She eats the men.
She looks for their souls.
They migrate.
This is a field of multiple destructions.
Taking a field trip to Spain’s Sea of Plastic in 2025 as its starting point, the project She Cries Human Tears imagines a narrative where the hallucinogenic toxins of nightshade plants contaminate the collective unconscious of tomato consumers. Using field recordings, fabulations and moving images, we follow several different strands – from 16th century polychrome sculpture, to spaghetti westerns, migrant fruit pickers, landowners and industrial agriculture, to think about energy, surplus, consumption, the sacred and horror. In their work artists use spoken word, sound and video.
